In a move that promises to transform the fortunes of a long-neglected region, Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has announced the resumption of construction work on the long-awaited Moolapeta Greenfield Port. This ambitious project, a dream long cherished by the local population, is poised to become a catalyst for economic development in the area. The Minister, accompanied by District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar and District SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy, oversaw the commencement of construction and inspected the ongoing works. “We are on track to open the port with at least one operational berth by June 12, 2025,” Atchannaidu declared, highlighting the project’s rapid progress.
Addressing the deep-rooted concerns of local migration, the Minister emphasised the region’s historical struggle with unemployment. “This port will change the narrative,” he asserted. “With industrial and tourism development on the horizon, there will be ample opportunities for local residents.” The Minister also revealed ongoing discussions with the central government to optimize the use of salt lands in the region. He urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu to consider establishing an oil refinery, a move that would further accelerate the region’s growth.
The strategic connection between the Moolapeta Greenfield Port and the Bhogapuram International Airport was another key highlight. Atchannaidu explained that the completion of both projects, along with the connecting infrastructure, would position the area as a hub for industrial, tourism, and township development. To bolster job creation and support the local community, the Minister announced plans for MSME parks, hotels, fishing harbors, and fish landing centers. He also assured residents of Moolpeta and Vishnu Chakra villages that an R&R colony with modern amenities would be built to replace their existing villages.
“This project is more than just infrastructure; it’s a beacon of hope for a region that has been underserved for far too long,” Atchannaidu stated. “We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of this development reach every corner of the community.” Vishwa Samudra Engineering Pvt Ltd, the project’s managing director, Dr. Anil Yendluri, reported substantial progress in the construction work. He highlighted the completion of the North Breakwater and a significant portion of the South Breakwater, as well as the production of concrete blocks and the ongoing general cargo berth filings.
