Election will be conducted to weavers’ societies: Minister

Minister for BC Welfare and Handlooms S Sabitha has made it clear that election will be conducted to the weavers’ societies soon and directed the officials and unions to form new societies in various districts.
The Minister held a meeting with the DDs, ADs and other officials concerned in the handloom textile commissionerate at Mangalagiri on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, she directed the officials to rejuvenate the weaver’s societies which are inactive now.
She said the Chandrababu Naidu headed government had decided to exempt GST on handloom cloths. She assured of providing marketing facilities to the handloom cloths and efforts being made to provide health insurance to the weavers.
She promised to provide free electricity up to 200 units to the handloom units and up to 500 units machine units. She assured of providing a 15 percent subsidy on yarn and raw material.
“A new textile park will be established in Chirala besides bolstering the existing textile parks”, the Minister revealed.
She directed the officials to form new cooperative societies. Handloom and Textiles Commissioner Reksha Rani and Additional Director Srikanth Prabhakar were among those who were present.
