Minister for Housing and Information & Public Relations K Parthasarathi has announced that the Ramayapatnam Sea Port in Nellore district is being developed at a cost of Rs 3,760 crore, with the Machilipatnam Port works expected to be completed by December 2025.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Housing Minister revealed that the first phase of the Machilipatnam Sea Port in Krishna district is being carried out at a cost of Rs 5,155 crore, also scheduled for completion by December 2025. Additionally, the Moolapet Sea Port in Srikakulam district is being constructed at a cost of Rs 4,362 crore.
Under the Sagarmala project, development works at Kakinada Anchorage Port are being undertaken with an investment of Rs 91 crore, of which Rs 43 crore has been allocated by the Centre under the Sagarmala scheme and another Rs 43 crore from the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), the Minister asserted.
“The Andhra Pradesh government aims to construct four fishing harbours at a cost of Rs 1,523 crore in the first phase and six fishing harbours in the second phase at a cost of Rs 1,595 crore. Proposals have been submitted to the Union Minister for Ports and Shipping, S. Sonowal, for the construction of 29 new projects in the state at a cost of Rs 3,300 crore,” Parthasarathi disclosed.
The Minister also noted that the Visakhapatnam Port Authority and the Inland Waterways Authority of India are jointly developing 36 new projects in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs 4,600 crore, which includes passenger jetties, fishing harbours, and the modernisation of ports.
Minister Parthasarathi acknowledged that Union Minister for Ports and Shipping Sonowal had confirmed that the Machilipatnam Port construction would be completed by December 2025. He highlighted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is personally monitoring the construction works of Machilipatnam Port.
“The construction of a Greenfield Port over 1,145 acres at Manginapudi village in Krishna district was initiated by the then TDP-led government during 2014-19. However, the YSRCP-led government neglected the construction works, causing significant delays. The Naidu-led government is committed to completing the Machilipatnam Port works on schedule,” Minister Parthasarathi reiterated.
