Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, located atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, was beautifully adorned with thousands of colourful bangles on Sunday to celebrate the annual Bangle Fest (Gajula Alankaram). Goddess Durga Devi was adorned with beautiful bangles donated by devotees, symbolising prosperity and devotion. The sanctum sanctorum, Malleswara Swamy Temple, and Nagendra Swamy Temple were all decorated with the bangles as part of the Karthika Masam Utsavalu.
The event took place on the sixth floor of the Mallikharjuna Maha Mandapam, where Vedic scholars conducted prayers. A large number of devotees gathered to witness the decorations and seek darshan of Durga Devi. An estimated 75,000 devotees visited the temple on the occasion, participating in the festivities and receiving blessings.
Temple Executive Officer (EO) KS Rama Rao ensured that all necessary arrangements were made for the comfort and convenience of the devotees. Highlighting the cultural significance of the event, EO Rama Rao noted, “Bangles are symbols of prosperity for women and are offered as gifts to the goddess. Adorning the temple and Kanaka Durga with bangles is a long-standing tradition in Karthika Masam. We are grateful for the overwhelming response from devotees.”
He added that the temple will distribute bangles to women devotees after the festival, continuing this cherished tradition.
