A grand passing out parade was held in Anantapur on Tuesday for 12 probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) who completed their training at the Police Training College. The ceremony was attended by State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and State Director General of Police (DGP) Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who graced the event as chief guests.
In her address, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed her pleasure in attending the ceremony and thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the opportunity to participate. She congratulated the newly trained DSPs and emphasized the state government’s commitment to enhancing police infrastructure and facilities. “The state government is focused on providing all the necessary resources to strengthen the police force,” she stated.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the police department in recent years, Anitha pointed out that during the previous administration, there was a severe lack of funding and critical resources, such as fingerprint identification tools. “In the past five years, the department had been severely neglected,” she noted, adding that a significant portion of the funds allocated for police welfare schemes had gone unutilized. She also mentioned that while the central government had fully funded the Greyhounds unit, the previous government had failed to allocate funds for the UCC, resulting in delays in several crucial projects.
The Minister highlighted the state government’s proactive stance on tackling crimes, particularly those against women and children. “Whenever a crime against women or children is reported, the Chief Minister personally contacts the district SPs to ensure swift action,” she said. She also spoke about the government’s efforts to modernize police stations, improve training, and enhance police infrastructure. “It’s not just about providing weapons or vehicles; it’s about comprehensive training and strengthening the entire police system,” she added, emphasizing that the police, from constables to the DGP, play a vital role in serving and protecting the public.
In his speech, DGP Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao congratulated the newly appointed DSPs and underscored the importance of the passing-out parade. “This is a memorable day for the probationary DSPs as they begin their journey in public service,” he said. He urged the new officers to uphold the values of impartiality, fearlessness, and integrity in their duties. “From this day onwards, you have pledged to serve the people without prejudice, remembering always your responsibility to protect human rights and uphold the Constitution of India,” he added.
The DGP also touched upon the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime, informing the gathering that the Chief Minister has agreed in principle to establish a cyber station in every district. “We are also planning to procure new cyber forensic tools and set up a sub-committee with ministers to address issues like white-collar crime, fraud, and narcotics,” he said. He assured the new DSPs that the police will take firm action to tackle crimes against women, children, and marginalized communities and will work towards improving the quality of case investigations through the use of scientific methods.
