With tropical storm ‘Fengal’ forming in the Bay of Bengal and heavy rainfall warnings issued, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has initiated measures to minimise the impact on residents. GMC Commissioner Puli Srinivasaulu announced on Sunday that a helpline has been established to assist the public, reachable at 0863-2345103.
The Commissioner urged department heads to prioritise public safety and directed GMC officials to remain vigilant, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Engineering teams were instructed to ensure pumps are ready to address potential flooding, while the Roads and Highways Department has been tasked with keeping equipment and manpower on standby to clear fallen trees swiftly.
To maintain essential services, the Commissioner said steps have been taken to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. Generators will be available to avoid disruptions in drinking water supply during outages, and personnel have been pre-assigned specific duties.
Residents facing difficulties due to the storm have been encouraged to contact the GMC helpline for assistance. Srinivasaulu assured that the administration is fully prepared to safeguard the well-being of Guntur’s citizens during this challenging period.
