Congress had several #1s, but #2 Rosaiah was permanent: Revanth
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy paid tributes to former United Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on his third death anniversary hailing him as a towering figure in politics whose contributions continue to inspire leaders.
Speaking at an event organised on Wednesday to commemorate Rosaiah’s legacy, the CM highlighted the veteran leader’s unparalleled influence on governance, fiscal discipline, and legislative conduct.
“The Congress had several CMs. While the number 1 always changed, the number 2, Rosaiah, was permanent,” Revanth said.
The Chief Minister recalled Rosaiah’s role in shaping the fiscal policies of united Andhra Pradesh.
“Telangana was formed with a surplus budget of Rs 16,000 crore, thanks to the fiscal discipline imposed by Finance Minister Rosaiah. His meticulous planning laid a strong foundation for our financial stability,” he said.
Revanth reminisced about his days as an MLC in the Legislative Council, where he often felt nervous speaking among stalwarts like Chukka Ramaiah, Professor Nageshwar and Rosaiah.
“Rosaiah once called me to his chamber and appreciated my speech on irrigation. Despite being in the opposition, he encouraged me, upholding the dignity of the Council,” he recalled, emphasising Rosaiah’s faith in encouraging constructive debates irrespective of political affiliations.
The Chief Minister regretted the current state of legislative proceedings, where opposition voices often go unheard.
“The responsibility of the opposition is to keep the government in check and the ruling party must address these issues. Rosaiah exemplified this principle, but such inspiration is sadly lacking today,” he said, expressing a longing for leaders like Rosaiah who valued democratic discourse.

Highlighting Rosaiah’s illustrious political career spanning over five decades, Revanth said that Rosaiah held various positions like Governor with distinction.

“Tamil Nadu Governors are often embroiled in controversies, but Rosaiah was an exception. He excelled in his duties without any controversy, earning the trust and admiration of Chief Ministers,” he said.
