West Godavari District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has assured that all necessary basic amenities are being provided to social welfare hostels and has urged students to make the best use of the benefits extended by the government.
During a surprise inspection of the social welfare hostel at Polamuru village in Penumantra mandal on Thursday, the Collector reviewed the hostel premises and offered suggestions to officials. She advised the hostel warden to cultivate flower and vegetable plants on the premises and to maintain cleanliness in and around the hostel.
She directed Housing Department officials to carry out repairs to the hostel building and reconstruct the damaged portion of the compound wall. Interacting with students, she encouraged them to focus on their studies for a brighter future.
The Collector emphasised that staying away from parents should motivate students to study harder and achieve success in life. She urged them to report any issues faced in the hostel to the concerned officials and inquired about the quality of meals being served.
In a gesture that impressed the students, Collector Nagarani joined them for lunch, sitting on the floor and reciting the prayer before eating. She said she intended to instil a sense of equality among the students.
The Collector also mentioned that proposals for repairs to the hostel building slab and the construction of toilets, estimated at Rs 14.40 lakh, had been sent to the Government. The work will commence once funds are released.
District Social Welfare Officer K. Sobharani, Housing Officer G. Pitchaiah, and Tahsildar A.Y. Ravikumar accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
