Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders Bida Mastan Rao and Sana Satish Babu, along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader R Krishnaiah, filed their nominations on Tuesday for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-polls from Andhra Pradesh.
The nominations were submitted at the Assembly building in the presence of Rajya Sabha elections returning officer R Vanitha Rani. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh, comprising the TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena Party, has fielded these candidates for the three vacant Rajya Sabha seats.
A press release stated that with only three nominations submitted for the three seats, the election is expected to be smooth. The candidates are likely to be elected unopposed, pending scrutiny of nominations and completion of procedural formalities.
The TDP-led alliance enjoys a dominant position in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, holding 164 out of 175 seats.
The TDP has 135 seats, Jana Sena Party holds 21, and the BJP has 8 seats, ensuring the coalition’s success in securing all three Rajya Sabha seats in the by-polls.
Scheduled for December 20, the by-polls will include voting and counting on the same day. The process is expected to be straightforward due to the unopposed nature of the nominations.
These by-polls hold significance for the NDA, as the alliance aims to bolster its strength in the Rajya Sabha, ensuring continued legislative influence at the national level.
