Plea to expedite recruitment of 4,439 teachers in universities
A Communist Party of India (CPI) delegation, led by State secretary K Ramakrishna, has urged the Minister for Human Resources and IT, Nara Lokesh, to address several pressing issues concerning higher education in Andhra Pradesh. The delegation emphasised the need to permanently appoint vice-chancellors for all 17 universities in the State, as currently they are being run by in-charge VCs.
Ramakrishna and party State secretariat member P Harinath Reddy met Lokesh at his residence at Undavalli near Vijayawada and submitted a representation. They also discussed various issues with the Minister, and pointed out that despite a notification issued on July 18, the government is yet to finalise the appointments, even four months later. The delegation urged the Minister to expedite the recruitment of 4,439 teachers in universities, including 418 Professor posts, 801 Associate Professor posts, and 3,220 Assistant Professor posts. Delays in appointments were attributed to the absence of regular VCs. Additionally, the CPI leaders called for the immediate appointment of a Chairman for the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), noting that the position has been vacant for over five months since the formation of the new government.
Meanwhile, the delegation criticised the continuation of Executive Council members appointed by the previous YSRCP government, alleging that some have made controversial decisions detrimental to the students’ welfare. Concerns were also raised about a decline in post-graduation admissions for the current academic year, potentially affecting the future of students.
Ramakrishna and Harinath Reddy requested Nara Lokesh to give special attention to these issues. They stressed that the resolution of these matters would strengthen the higher education system in Andhra Pradesh and ensure better prospects for students and faculty.
