Minister for Social Welfare, Dola Balaveeranjaneya Swamy, urged the people to draw inspiration from the ideals of freedom fighter Potti Sriramulu.
The Minister, accompanied by Collector A. Thameem Ansariya, Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Nukasani Balaji, and Mayor Gangada Sujata, paid tributes to the late freedom fighter. They garlanded the statue of Potti Sriramulu at the CVN Reading Room here on Sunday. A meeting, titled ‘Atmarpana Sabha’, was organized on the occasion.
In his address, Minister Dola Balaveeranjaneya Swamy recalled that the formation of a separate Andhra Pradesh state was the result of the supreme sacrifice made by Potti Sriramulu. He highlighted that Potti Sriramulu fought not only for India’s independence but also for the entry of Dalits into temples. The Minister further emphasized Potti Sriramulu’s strong connection with Prakasam district.
“Potti Sriramulu undertook a fast unto death, sacrificing his life with the firm belief that the Telugu people must have their own identity. He was also deeply concerned about the state’s development. In line with his vision, the government led by Chandrababu Naidu is working tirelessly to develop the state across all sectors,” the Minister stated.
He also recalled that Mahatma Gandhi admired Potti Sriramulu for his significant role in the freedom struggle. The Minister praised Sriramulu’s dedication to the cause despite personal challenges, including family issues.
The Minister further extolled Potti Sriramulu’s efforts to ensure that Dalits could enter temples, as he believed that alongside the country’s independence, Dalits should also attain economic and social freedom. He noted that the Naidu-led state government has formulated the ‘Swarnandhra 2047 Vision Document’ to carry forward the ideals of Potti Sriramulu and to ensure the overall development of the state.
Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Balaji stated that everyone should feel proud of Potti Sriramulu and emphasized the need to educate future generations about his supreme sacrifice. He urged the Collector to install a Potti Sriramulu statue at the Collector’s office premises.
District Revenue Officer B. China Obulesu, BC Welfare Officer Anjala, BC Corporation Director Venkateswara Rao, and District Education Officer Kiran Kumar attended the programme.
