BRS leader T. Harish Rao made a sensational claim in the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday that some Members are coming drunk to the House and proposed a breath analyser test for all legislators. He said in the House that like the breath analyser test to check drunk driving on roads, a test should be conducted on legislators before they enter the House.
Harish said that some Members are coming to the House after consuming liquor in the morning. These members don’t know what they are speaking, he said.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy demanded that Harish should apologise to the House for his comments. He said Harish’s remarks are disparaging not just for the House but the entire society.
He lamented that Harish is making personal attacks and added that no MLA either from the ruling party or the opposition should make personal remarks. Harish made the above comment when Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy termed him a thief in connection with the Kaleshwaram Project.
Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah said that Harish may have spoken about his uncle, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar expressed his unhappiness over Harish’s remarks and said they will be deleted from the records.
Earlier, he also deleted certain remarks by BRS MLA Vivekananda. He also criticised the remarks of BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy and warned him that if he continued to make such remarks he would be suspended. The Speaker said that this is not a good tradition for new members.
The Minister for Legislative Affairs, D. Sridhar Babu, took exception to the allegations made by Vivekananda against the government. He said the Member should inform the Speaker before levelling allegations.
The BRS MLA had made the allegations while speaking about the problems of auto-rick drivers. Sridhar said it was the BRS Government which had betrayed auto-rick drivers.
