Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, announced that four Primary Health Centres (PHCs) have been sanctioned for the Eluru district under the National Health Mission (NHM). These PHCs are currently under construction.
Responding to a question by Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar during the winter session of Parliament, the Union Minister detailed the funds allocated for hospital construction and upgradation in Eluru district and Andhra Pradesh over the past five years.
The Minister stated that six PHCs were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh under the NHM scheme, of which five have been completed. Four of these PHCs are allocated to the Eluru district and are in progress. Additionally, four maternal and child health wings were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh, with three already completed.
Regarding health and wellness centres, the Union Minister revealed that 2,727 were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh, including 107 for the Eluru district, all of which are operational. Under the 15th Finance Commission, 334 Block Public Health Units were approved for Andhra Pradesh, with 35 completed. In the Eluru district, 15 were sanctioned, with one completed.
The Minister also disclosed that nine Community Health Centres were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh. Under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, 26 Integrated Public Health Labs were approved, of which 13, including one in Eluru district, are operational.
For Critical Care Blocks, 24 were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh, with one allocated to Eluru district. From 2021-22 to 2025-26, Rs 1,271.8 crore was allocated under PM-ABHIM, and Rs 2,600.8 crore under the 15th Finance Commission Health Grant, totalling Rs 3,872.6 crore for strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the state.
The Minister further highlighted the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for establishing new medical colleges in association with district referral hospitals, with a funding ratio of 90:10 for northeastern and special category states and 60:40 for other states. Under this initiative, 157 medical colleges have been approved nationwide, including three in Andhra Pradesh—Piduguralla, Paderu, and Machilipatnam. Among these, the colleges at Paderu and Machilipatnam are operational.
