The general body meeting in the Nagarkurnool Municipality on Friday descended into chaos. Instead of discussing the beign faced by common people , the ruling and opposition party leaders fought over funds and allocations of funds for their respective wards.
Issues such as drinking water, garbage collection, roads, streetlights and other development works should have been included in the agenda for discussion. However, the meeting turned into a blame game among councilors of different parties, focusing solely on the funds allocated to their respective wards. This created chaos at the meeting.
It seems that the members were arguing over the distribution of remaining funds, with proposals for purchasing items like a Vaikuntha Rath, two tractors, and ten auto-rickshaws, as well as sharing the allocated funds for these purposes. There have been constant allegations that the municipal councillors have failed to fulfil the promises they made to the people and have been involved in activities inimical to public good.
During the meeting, the ruling and opposition parties exchanged accusations regarding these same issues, and this has become a hot topic of discussion. With only 13 days left in their term, the ongoing blame game has raised questions about the future of these councillors in the upcoming elections. There are allegation that at least Rs 1 crore meant for workers’ wage was misappropriated. But there is no inquiry into the allegations so far.
