Govt committed to brighter future for disadvantaged students: Dola

Social Welfare Minister and Visakhapatnam district In-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy announced the State government’s commitment to providing a brighter future for economically disadvantaged students. As part of these efforts, the government has introduced the Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal Scheme in government junior colleges, ensuring quality nutrition for students. The scheme was officially launched on Saturday morning at the Government Women’s Junior College on Old Jail Road, with local MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas and District Collector Harendhira Prasad in attendance.
Minister Veeranjaneya Swamy emphasized the government’s dedication to improving the prospects of students from economically backward communities. He highlighted the importance of the mid-day meal program as a crucial step towards ensuring proper nourishment for students, leading to better academic performance and overall well-being.
The Minister encouraged students to make the most of this opportunity, remain focused on their studies, and strive towards their goals with determination. He assured that the government would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and support for education. In a gesture of solidarity, Minister Veeranjaneya Swamy distributed meals to the students and joined them for lunch, further demonstrating his commitment to their welfare.
District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad explained how the Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal Scheme aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to improve education and its accessibility. He noted that the initiative aims not only to provide nutritious meals but also to increase enrolment in government junior colleges, particularly among economically disadvantaged students. The collector shared that the scheme is already benefiting 5,600 students across ten junior colleges in Visakhapatnam district, implemented with the support of the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including RDO P. Srilekha, MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, MLC Rama Rao, DEO Prem Kumar, Social Welfare DD Rama Rao, Principal of Women’s Junior College J. Vijaya, as well as teachers and students.
