Minister for Housing and I&PR, K Parthasarathy, highlighted the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment for a healthy life and urged public support for the success of the ‘Swachh Andhra – Swachh Diwas’ programme.
The Minister, accompanied by officials, participated in the programme held at Tukkuluru village in Nuzvid Mandal on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, Minister Parthasarathy emphasised that cleanliness must become a way of life. “The Swachh Andhra – Swachh Diwas programme, initiated by the Andhra Pradesh Government, is conducted on the third Saturday of every month across the State. The success of this initiative depends on the active cooperation and participation of the public,” he stated.
Reflecting on the past, the Minister remarked that villages had a cleaner atmosphere during the previous YSRCP regime. However, with the increasing population, garbage levels have risen, adversely affecting public health. He urged residents to maintain environmental hygiene and ensure cleanliness in their surroundings to safeguard their health.
Criticising the previous YSRCP government, Minister Parthasarathy alleged that negligence under their administration had resulted in the accumulation of 85 lakh metric tonnes of garbage across the State.“Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, a massive programme has been launched to clear this garbage and maintain hygiene throughout the State. Public participation and support are crucial for this mission’s success,” he asserted.
The Minister also instructed officials to promptly address sanitation-related issues in municipalities and village panchayats.
Later, he administered an oath to participants, pledging to uphold hygiene and cleanliness in their surroundings. Among those present at the event were ZP CEO K. Subba Rao, DLPL M.P.L. Sundari, DLDO Venkata Rao, and other officials.
