St. Francis College for Women came alive with vibrant colors and cultural fervor during its much-anticipated Ethnic Day celebration. Themed “India: A Symphony of States,” the event highlighted the nation’s rich cultural diversity, bringing together students, faculty, and esteemed guests for a day of unity and celebration.
The day began with an address by the college principal, Dr. Uma Joseph, who expressed her joy at seeing students adorned in their best ethnic attire. She emphasized the importance of respecting India’s cultural diversity and fostering tolerance for each other’s differences. “In today’s world, it is important to appreciate the beauty of the heart rather than getting lost in outward glamour,” she said.
The celebration was graced by Ms. Jennifer Alphonse, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and an alumna of the college. Sharing fond memories of her time as a student, she encouraged the attendees to cherish the special day and celebrate the vibrant cultural heritage of India. Adding to the excitement, Mr. Ravi, a renowned Telugu anchor and actor, interacted with students, sharing anecdotes from his youth and appreciating the vibrant spirit of the event. Mr. Ravi also joined in unveiling the college’s new merchandise alongside the principal, further adding to the day’s highlights.
The event featured a dazzling array of cultural activities. Students and faculty participated in a ramp walk, showcasing traditional attire from regions across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, West Bengal, the Coorg region of Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala. The ramp walk was accompanied by the creation of unique tableaus that represented the food, art, crafts, and GI-tagged items from these states, offering a kaleidoscopic view of India’s heritage.
Adding to the festive spirit, the celebration featured performances by local artists and a traditional Kerala dhol troupe, setting an energetic tone for the day. A medley of dances representing different states captivated the audience, reflecting the harmony and unity inherent in India’s cultural diversity.
The day concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony, where the best-dressed students and staff were recognized, and awards were presented for the most creative tableau. The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone inspired by the unity and beauty of India’s rich traditions.
