Senior IPS officer and NTR District Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu has landed himself quite a ‘spirited’ assignment — overseeing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing irregularities in the Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL). If handling law and order wasn’t enough, now he has the added task of untangling a financial mess that allegedly brewed between October 2019 and March 2024. Leading a crack team of six senior officers from enforcement and vigilance departments, Rajasekhar Babu has been handed sweeping powers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. From search and seizure to grilling witnesses and making arrests, this SIT means business. And with the Director General of Police (CID) watching over their shoulders, there’s no room for ‘on the rocks’ investigations. The government, in a rare show of urgency, has directed all departments to extend their full support—technical, legal, and presumably, moral—to the SIT. The team will submit progress reports every fortnight, ensuring that this probe doesn’t just fizzle out. With a case involving APSBCL, financial loopholes, and a senior IPS officer in charge, one thing is certain—this investigation won’t be short of twists, turns, and perhaps a few sobering revelations!
