CM Revanth seeks Central intervention on water usage

Must read

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the excess use of Krishna waters by Andhra Pradesh and directed irrigation officials to be more vigilant in monitoring the withdrawals from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar.
He asserted that installing a telemetry system is the only way to prevent Andhra Pradesh from taking more than its allocated share.
Officials informed the CM that the AP government had not contributed its share of funds for the system. In response, Revanth ordered Principal Secretary (Irrigation) Rahul Bojja to write to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), confirming that Telangana would pay the entire amount upfront to ensure the immediate installation of the telemetry system.
Reiterating that the allocation and monitoring of water usage between the two states is the responsibility of the Central Water Commission, Revanth asked officials to complain to the Centre regarding AP’s unilateral shifting of water. He urged the Centre to intervene and prevent Andhra Pradesh from exceeding its allocated water share.
With peak summer months approaching, the Telangana government is preparing to handle the increased demand for irrigation, drinking and power generation, ensuring that farmers and residents do not face shortages.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy asked irrigation officials to ensure the judicious use of water from all projects in Telangana to the irrigation and drinking water needs during summer. Reviewing the situation at the Command Control Center on Monday, he emphasised the need for meticulous planning over the next three months to avoid a water crisis.
Along with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister held a high-level meeting with top irrigation officials to assess water availability in major reservoirs, including Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and SRSP. Officials were told to conduct regular field visits, monitor ground conditions and take immediate action to protect standing crops.
