Council elections: Prohibitory orders imposed

Nalgonda District Collector and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ Constituency Returning Officer Ila Tripathi has announced that a 48-hour silence period will be enforced ahead of the Teachers’ MLC elections scheduled for February 27, 2025. According to the announcement, the silence period will begin at 4 pm on February 25 (Tuesday) and continue until 4 pm on February 27 (Thursday).
During this period, all forms of election campaigning, including public meetings, rallies, and processions, will be strictly prohibited. The Election Commission has also banned the dissemination of political messages through bulk SMS, social media posts, and any other digital means. Additionally, any content related to opinion polls or exit polls will not be allowed under Section 126(1)(b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Authorities will closely monitor social media platforms, and any violations will be met with stringent legal action.
In an effort to maintain law and order, Section 144 will be imposed in all districts in which the elections are held, prohibiting gatherings of more than four people in public places. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents.
The Election Commission has reiterated that its primary objective is to conduct the elections in a transparent and orderly manner. The authorities have appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the administration and uphold the democratic process.
