Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday and urged the Centre to approve key infrastructure projects for Telangana, including the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, Regional Ring Road (RRR) South, and the Musi Rejuvenation project. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, also focused on the need for a Regional Ring Rail, dry ports, and the India Semiconductor Mission. Interestingly even PM made suggestions to the state government regarding PMAY, rail and road project clearances, irrigation project DPRs.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the previous BRS government had not prioritized the expansion of Hyderabad Metro during its 10-year tenure. He explained that the Phase-II project proposes five corridors covering 76.4 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 24,269 crore and sought immediate approval for its implementation.
He also pressed for the sanction of the Southern part of the RRR, arguing that with 90 percent of land acquisition completed for the Northern part, both sections must progress simultaneously for full utilization. The CM informed the Prime Minister that the Telangana government was ready to bear 50 percent of the cost of land acquisition for the Southern RRR. Additionally, he proposed the development of a Regional Ring Rail parallel to the RRR to enhance connectivity across Telangana and neighboring states.
Revanth Reddy further sought approval for a Dry Port near the RRR to boost exports and imports, along with a Greenfield road and rail line linking the dry port to a sea port. He emphasized that such projects would be vital for Telangana, a landlocked state.
The CM also pushed for central support for the Musi Rejuvenation project, citing its cultural and spiritual significance to Hyderabad. He requested Rs. 20,000 crore in financial assistance for the project, which includes
the development of Bapu Ghat, 27 sewage treatment plants for Musi purification, construction of retaining walls and embankments, and linking of Musi and Godavari rivers. He also urged the Centre to transfer 222.7 acres of defense land for the Gandhi Sarovar project.
Addressing administrative concerns, Revanth Reddy briefed the Prime Minister on the shortage of IPS officers in Telangana, citing rising cyber crimes and drug trafficking cases. He requested an additional 29 IPS posts, highlighting that Telangana currently has 61 IPS cadre posts, with 15 more sanctioned in 2015.
In the industrial sector, he appealed for Telangana’s inclusion in the India Semiconductor Mission, stating that the state had favorable conditions for hosting semiconductor industries. State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu also attended the meeting.
During the discussions, PM Modi advised the Telangana government to focus on resolving pending state matters from 2017 to 2022. He stressed the need for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and directed the state to identify eligible beneficiaries by March 31, 2025. He also suggested allocating Rs. 150 crore for an ESI hospital in Shamshabad and urged the state to expedite road construction in Maoist-affected regions.
Additionally, the Prime Minister reminded the Telangana government of its pending contribution of Rs. 1,365.95 crore for AIIMS Bibinagar and emphasized the need for forest clearance for two stalled railway projects. He also pointed out that three irrigation projects were awaiting approval and advised the state to revise and resubmit project estimates.
Revanth Reddy assured the Prime Minister that a decision on the pending projects would be taken soon. The meeting marks a crucial step in Telangana’s efforts to secure central support for its key infrastructure and development initiatives.
