The Vijayawada Children’s Schools and Tutorials Association (VCS & TA) ‘Balotsav’ celebrations began at the Vijaya Institute of Technology For Women at Enikepadu near Vijayawada on Friday. Former minister and Vijayawada Central MLA Velampall Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the three-day celebrations.

As many as 1,700 children from 100 schools in Krishna and NTR districts are taking part in the ‘Balotsav’ comprising sports, cultural programmes, academic activities, cartoon, rhymes, storytelling, picking up the letter and others. Students enthusiastically participated in several competitions.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Velampalli Srinivasa Rao said that educational institutions should conduct competitions not only in the academic category, but also sports and games. He appreciated the organisers for conducting the ‘Balotsav’ to identify students’ talents, he added.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi said that educational institutions should teach moral values and ethics besides education. “There is an allegation about the private schools that they are running schools for profit, but after seeing the Balotsav programme it seems to be a baseless one,” she added.

VCS & TA honorary president Devineni Kishore Kumar, president Chennareddy Srinivas Reddy, Sports, Cultural, Academic committees chairmen Mudigonda Srihari Rao, Arumallla Mohan Reddy, T Srinivasa Rao, Sridhar Reddy, Vijaya College Principal Chenchamma and others were present.
