Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha, and Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu have directed officials to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the city’s comprehensive development. They stressed the need for coordination among various departments to implement projects that align with Vijayawada’s growth, particularly as it serves as the gateway to the state capital, Amaravati.
At a meeting held on Thursday at the collectorate, officials from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Roads & Buildings, and Revenue Departments reviewed proposed projects in the Vijayawada East, West, and Central Assembly constituencies. With the Mahanadu Road-Nidamanur flyover and the first phase of the Gannavaram Metro Corridor nearing completion, the officials discussed the need for alternative routes to ease congestion before these projects are operational.
The meeting also covered plans for improving road connectivity, constructing bridges and junctions, developing parking facilities, and undertaking beautification initiatives. Key proposals included river bund landscaping, installing railings on hill roads, upgrading Gandhi Hill, enhancing the Kaleshwara Rao Market Junction, and expanding the Kedareshwaraopet-Tunnel Road. Officials were instructed to assess feasibility and promptly prepare proposals, estimates, and DPRs.
Additionally, the city’s development through the Urban Development Fund (UDF) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models was discussed. Plans to upgrade existing parks and create new ones, develop small parks along canals, and set up food courts in green spaces were also considered. The officials reviewed disaster preparedness, including the establishment of cyclone centres in all three constituencies.
Vijayawada RDO Kavuri Chaitanya, VMC Additional Commissioner D Chandrasekhar, Superintending Engineer (Projects) C Satya Kumari, and other officials attended the meeting.
