Arunodaya Cultural Samakhya (ACF) organised a cultural protest demanding the withdrawal of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on Saturday at Baghlingampally Park. Activists condemned booking artists under UAPA. Vimalakka played a vital role during the Telangana movement.
Speaking at the Prajakalala Gala Garjana organised by the ACF, Vimalakka demanded that they withdraw the UAPA act.
Retired Prof Haragopal, one of the prominent activists on whom the police filed the illegal case, alleged that the State government by deploying the UAPA has been throttling the voice of dissent.
Activists said that the Telangana government misused the UAPA by foisting cases on activists.
ACF also took out a rally from Sundarayya Park to VSP Towers demanding the withdrawal of the cases foisting on the activists. Through cultural activities, the artists expressed their grievances and protested against UAPA. Sangula Ranjith, Acharya Katta Bhagwata, Anisetty Shankar, Dr Madala Ravi and others were present.
