Acute shortage of popular brands of beers in Medak district

Must read

Beer lovers in the district find it difficult to get their favourite branded beers with the liquor depots imposing curbs on supply of branded beers to wine shops.
Both the liquor shop owners and beer lovers left disappointed with non-availability of branded beers.
Each shop gets a supply of 20-25 cases of branded beers. However, the traders feel disappointed as the supplied quantity is not enough to meet at least one-days demand from beer lovers.
The excise stations are located at Medak, Ramayampeta and Narsapur. There are 49 wine shops and five bars under their jurisdiction.
The excise year commenced last year on the first of December. As elections were held to the state assembly during the previous month, the liquor sales improved. Last year, total sale of liquor during the Dec-March period was at Rs 194.68 crore as against this year’s total sale of Rs 206.71 crore.
Last year, 268763 beer cases were sold during the December-January period as against 2,96,977 cases during the corresponding period this year.
Because of sweltering heat, tippers would love to savour their favourite branded beers. However, shortage of drinking water conditions applied to beer production and other reasons created shortage of beers in the market. The beers last only for a period of six months only. Stocks of beers cannot be maintained because of the short shelf-life of the product. Ordinary beer brands are available in the market, but not the popular brands of beers. As per the index of each shop, 20-25 cases are being supplied, forcing the shop owners to control the popular brands of beer sales.
District-wise, during the Dec-Jan period of this year the liquor sales improved by 6.18 per cent compared to sales of beers during the corresponding period last year. The conception of the beers during the Dec-Jan period this year has increased by 10.50 per cent when compared to the consumption of beers during the corresponding period last year.
Especially during summer, shortage of beers occurs due to demand-supply mismatch. Therefore, the excise officials say that supply of main brands of beers is being regulated.
