The identity of Adivasis is rooted in their unique culture, said Manthani MLA and All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary D Sridhar Babu on Thursday.

The MLA spent Wednesday night in the remote Thanda, Madaram, as part of the Congress party programme to interact with the tribal people as part of the Adivasi Day celebrations. He was accorded a warm welcome.

Speaking during the interaction with tribal people, Sridhar Babu exhorted the youth to pursue higher education and earn respect in society. It is pertinent, he said, that the tribal youth, while persevering their traditions, should use modern technology for career development.

He recalled that Manmohan Singh when he was Prime Minister in the United Progress Alliance government, distributed Podu land titles to lakhs of Adivasis. He assured the tribal people that the Congress party, immediately after coming to power in the State, would sanction ration cards to everyone. He said the Congress party if elected to power, would fulfil its promise of waiving farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh. He interacted with tribal people.

Sridhar Babu, later, visited Jeelapally village and inspected the government school and Anganwadi there. He asked the government school headmaster to ensure that the students are served quality food. He advised the Anganwadi volunteers to ensure nutritious food for pregnant women and children.

Congress party leader Kota Rajababu Goud, Ramnarayn Goud and ZPTCC and MPP members were present.
