All set for biggest tribal fest at Medaram

All arrangements are being made for the conduct of the biggest tribal festival Medaram jatara from Feb 21 to 24. In all, 1.5-crore devotees are expected to visit the event.
Meanwhile, Siddaboyina Nitin has been appointed the main priest at the Sammakka-Sarallamma temple. In all, Goddess Sammakka will have five main priests, six for Goddess Saralamma, one each for Pagididda Raju and Govindaraju.
In fact, one of the main priests of Siddaboyina Lakshman Rao died three months ago due to illness. None was appointed in his place so far.
In view of the tribal festival, the main priests and their family members held a meeting to discuss the heir to the Lakshman Rao. They identified Nitin, son of the late Lakshman Rao, as the main priest and recommended it to the endowments department, which recently authorized the appointment.
Nitin along with 12 other main priests would discharge his duties from Wednesday onwards.
Meanwhile, the Centre has allocated Rs 3 crore special funds to the tribal fair, announces Minister G Kishan Reddy.

He said that the funds would be utilised for providing amenities to the devotees.
