The authorities have made foolproof arrangements for the biennial elections to the AP Legislative Council from Graduates’, Teachers’ and Local Authorities’ Constituencies will be held on Monday, March 13 from 8 am to 4 pm, said the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh Mukesh Kumar Meena.
Addressing the media persons he said that 10,00,619 electors will cast their vote for Graduates constituencies, 55,842 for Teachers’ constituencies, and 3,059 for Local Authorities constituencies and the counting will be held on March 16.
He said that the electoral rolls have been updated till the last date
of making nominations in the Graduates’ and Teachers’
Constituencies. The details of polling stations and electors as on
February 23 are for Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam
Graduates’ the electors are 2,89,214 will cast their vote in 331 polling stations. In Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor 3,81,181 electors in 453 polling stations and in Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool 3,30,124 electors in 388 polling stations with a total number of 10,00,519 electors and 1172 polling stations.
For Teachers’ Constituencies in Prakasam-NelloreChittoor, 27,694
electors will cast their vote in 176 polling stations, and in Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool 28,148 electors in 175 polling stations.
For Local Authorities’ Constituencies in Srikakulam, 776 electors will cast their vote in 4 polling stations, in West Godavari 1,105 candidates in five polling stations, and in Kurnool 1,178 candidates in 6 polling stations.
The chief electoral officer stated that a total of 106 candidates are
contesting for graduate constituencies, for Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam 37 candidates, Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor 22 and for Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool 49 candidates. For the Teachers’ constituencies, 8 candidates are contesting for Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor and 12 for Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool.
For Local Authorities, two candidates are contesting for Srikakulam, six for West Godavari, and three for Kurnool.
On the other hand, five ruling party-affiliated candidates
were declared elected for the Local Authorities’ Constituencies. The elected candidates are S Mangamma for Anantapur, Rama Subba Reddy Ponnapureddy Kadapa, MerigaMuralidhar Nellore, Kudupudi Suryanarayana Rao East Godavari and Subramanyam Cipai for
Chittoor Local Authorities elections.
He said that Live webcasting/ videography of the entire poll process will be conducted at all the polling stations.
As per the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation reported so far, the authorities have seized Rs.77,48,010 cash. They also seized Liquor to the tune of 1,02,819.05 Lts and registered 64 Excise (Prohibition) cases and arrested 75 persons. About 7,380 Licensed Arms were deposited. 1,941 cases were registered under preventive Sections and 7,266 persons were bound over under preventive sections of Cr.P.C.
He said that the Government instructed the Collectors & District Magistrates to declare a local holiday on the day of the poll (13.03.2023) and on the day of the counting of votes (16.03.2023), as per the necessity, for the Offices / Institutions
where polling and counting centres are established for the ongoing biennial Elections. On local holidays, the Treasuries, Sub-Treasuries, and all other offices/institutions in the District will however function
as usual.
