Allocation for agriculture not up to expectations: APRSSS

Must read

Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sanghala Samanvaya Samithi (APRSSS) protested against the Union Budget by burning its copies, at the Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on Sunday. They said the budget allocations for the agriculture sector were not up to their expectations.
Speaking on the occasion, APRSSS convener and former minister Vadde Sobhandreeswara Rao commented that the budget allocated meagre funds to agriculture. However, the BJP-led NDA government allotted more funds to big industrialists and provided incentives to the corporate, in addition to redemption of the loans, he alleged.
Further, he came down heavily on the Central government saying that mud was stuffed in the mouths of farmers, who provide rice to the people of the country. There is a reduction in the budget allocation for even the Upadhi scheme. There were no funds for irrigation works under the scheme. As a result, rural people have migrated to other areas seeking a livelihood, he added.
He added that the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, constituted during the Congress rule, have not been implemented in the country. Even though BJP bagged less number of seats this time due to the peasants’ agitations, the party’s attitude has not changed, he said.
APRSSS leaders Y Kesavarao, P Jamalaiah, M Haribabu, M Yalamanda Rao, PV Anjaneyulu, M Prasad Babu, P Krishna, M Nageswara Rao and others were present.
