Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu resumed the development works for the capital city of Amaravati on Saturday, promising to bring the city back to life. He announced that Visakhapatnam will be developed as the financial capital, while a High Court bench and new industries will be established in Kurnool. The CM emphasised, “We will rebuild Amaravati as a self-financing project. However, certain vested interests, particularly those in power earlier, spread false propaganda that it would require lakhs of crores to develop the city.”
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government’s Vision-2047 is solely aimed at the state’s development. He noted that in response to his call, 29,881 farmers voluntarily contributed 34,241 acres of land for the Amaravati project, and credited the TDP with this achievement.
Chandrababu further remarked, “A sacred and powerful force has protected this land, where even the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone. After the bifurcation, the residuary Andhra Pradesh was left without a capital and faced many challenges, including a 16 per cent budget deficit.”
He criticised the previous government for wasting five crucial years, under the pretext of insufficient funds, and reminded everyone that Amaravati had already been declared a self-financing capital. “In Hyderabad, we didn’t invest any direct funds either. We allocated land and provided water, which led to the city’s development. The same principle applies to Amaravati,” he said.
The CM declared that Amaravati would be developed without burdening the state exchequer. He described the city as a goldmine for creating employment and implementing welfare schemes for the poor.
“Amaravati holds great sanctity, being the capital for the Gods,” Naidu said, highlighting that prominent institutions such as VIT, SRM, and Amrita Universities have already begun operations there.
He also mentioned that the Xavier School of Management (formerly XLRI) will soon set up its unit in Amaravati, along with a law school. The CM expressed his desire for all top 10 institutions in the country to establish their branches in Amaravati. “I have already appealed to the Centre for a bullet train connecting Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Amaravati. The World Bank has also approved a loan for the city. I want all the work to be completed on time,” Naidu said.
The CM reiterated that rivers like the Vamsadhara, Godavari, Krishna, and Pennar will be interlinked, making Amaravati one of the most beautiful cities in India. He regretted that the state is now facing an additional financial burden of Rs 7,000 crore due to the damage caused by the previous administration.
He mentioned that the Centre has already committed Rs 15,000 crore to support the state’s development. Additionally, residential towers for Ministers, MLAs, and All India Service officers will soon be completed. “The stature of Andhra Pradesh has significantly improved after the mandate given by the people in the recent elections,” Naidu said.
The CM highlighted the alliance between the TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP, stating that their focus is on the welfare of the state. “People should now drive out the evil from the state once and for all,” he asserted
