Ambedkar ‘Smriti Vanam’ to become AP’s new tourist destination

AP State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Y Srilakshmi said that the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam under construction in Vijayawada will soon become one of the State’s most popular tourist destinations.

Srilakshmi, along with Andhra Pradesh Greening & Beautification Corporation MD B Rajasekhar and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, inspected the 125-feet tall statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at Swaraj Maidan on Thursday. She examined the places identified for the beautification works and gave instructions to the staff.

Srilakshmi said that the ‘Smriti Vanam’ will feature a Mughal garden landscaping, bougainvillaea plants in a bamboo frame, pebble patterns, and the national bird peacock in colourful flowers. She said that the greenery will be a major attraction for tourists.

The Special Chief Secretary also said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has the same personality as a great person like BR Ambedkar, is implementing many programmes for the poor and downtrodden communities with the inspiration of Dr. BR Ambedkar. She said that the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam is a tribute to the great leader and will be a source of inspiration for future generations.

The construction of the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam is nearing completion and is expected to be open to the public soon. The project has been built at a cost of around Rs 400 crore rupees and has employed more than 500 labourers.

Srilakshmi said that the Smriti Vanam will have a modern AC theatre, museum, library, and water pools to showcase every incident of Ambedkar’s life. She said that it is a matter of pride for all of us to have such a world-class tourist destination in the heart of Vijayawada city.

The Ambedkar Smriti Vanam is expected to attract lakhs of tourists from all over the country. It will be a major boost for the tourism industry in AP and will help to create jobs for the local people.
