Ambedkar’s statue stands for his vision: Vijayasai

Rajya Sabha member and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) national general secretary V Vijayasai Reddy has emphasised the pivotal role played by Dr Ambedkar in combating caste and creed discrimination, particularly against Dalits, Bahujan, and backward communities. Reddy highlighted that the 125-foot bronze statue of Dr. Ambedkar, set to be unveiled on January 19 at Swaraj Maidan in Vijayawada, symbolises the enduring impact of Ambedkar’s vision. The impressive Ambedkar Smritivanam, built at a cost exceeding Rs 400 crore, stands as a testament to the historical significance of this initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Vijayasai Reddy disclosed that the unveiling ceremony for the 125-foot statue, mounted on an 81-foot pedestal with a total height of 206 feet, will commence at 4 pm on January 19. The Chief Minister will grace the occasion, followed by his participation in a public meeting at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. The arrangements for this event were thoroughly reviewed in collaboration with top officials and key party leaders.
Addressing the media, Reddy underscored Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s commitment to prioritising Dalits in social, economic, and political spheres, aligning with Ambedkar’s ideologies. He commended Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, for its enduring impact even 75 years after independence. Reddy attributed the proper functioning of legal, executive, and legislative systems to Ambedkar’s visionary Constitution. He applauded Chief Minister Jagan for drawing inspiration from Ambedkar’s ideals and initiating the installation of the monumental statue.
Reddy emphasized that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government has tirelessly worked for the development of Dalit, Badugu, and weaker sections over four years and eight months. The government’s efforts include the implementation of welfare schemes like Navaratna, designed by Ambedkar’s aspirations and theories.
Calling Dr. Ambedkar a symbol of hope for the weaker sections, Reddy urged all political parties to appreciate and voluntarily participate in the program. He announced that Smriti Vanam would be open to the public after the event on the 20th of this month.
Notable figures, including Minister Merugu Nagarjuna, Chief Minister Programme Coordinator Thalashila Raghuram, MP Keshineni Nani, MLA Vellampalli Srinivas, Malladi Vishnu, MLC Lella Appireddy, Vizianagaram ZP Chairman M Srinivas Rao, District Collector S Dilli Rao, Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata, and other party leaders, inspected the program arrangements.
