Stating that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants to ensure that Hyderabad does not become a Bengaluru, Metro MD NVS Reddy said that the Metro will be expanded around the Outer Ring Road. If this phase is completed, Hyderabad will be on par with New Delhi, he said.

The Phase-3 expansion of the Metro is planned to cover the 136 km stretch of the Outer Ring Road. This will have 16 stations and does not include the 31 km RGI Airport Metro which is part of Phase 2 and goes along the ORR.

After the CM’s decision to expand the Hyderabad Metro at a cost of Rs 69,000 crore, the Metro MD held a press conference on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that a 22-km metro corridor will be constructed from Patan Cheruvu to Narsing, and a 40-km metro corridor will be constructed from Tukkuguda, Bongaluru and Pedda Amberpet.

When asked if this project will be completed in 3 or 4 years, as told by KTR, NVS Reddy remained non-committal.

As per the proposal, Part A of Metro Phase-3 will comprise six corridors covering 142 km and will have 68 stations.

While one would connect BHEL to Patancheruvu and Isnapur (13 km; eight stations; Rs 3,250 crore), another would connect LB Nagar to Hayathnagar and Peddamberpet (13 km; eight stations; Rs 4,500 crore).

Another corridor would connect Shamshabad Junction Metro station with Kothur and Shadnagar (28 km; six stations; Rs 6,800 crore).

A corridor is planned to connect Uppal with Bibinagar via Ghatkesar (25 km, 10 stations, Rs 6,900 crore).

Another corridor is planned from RGI Airport to Kandukur via Tukkuguda ORR and Maheshwaram X Road (26 km, eight stations, Rs 6,600 crore). A corridor is planned to connect Tarnaka with ECIL X Road (8 km, five stations, Rs 2,300 crore).

Part B of Phase-3 will cover ORR. Part C of Phase-3 is planned from Jubilee Bus Station to Tumkunta (17 km, 13 stations, Rs 5,690 crore) and another from Paradise Junction to Kandlakoya via Kompally (12 km, 10 stations, Rs 4,400 crore).

“Already 1.2 crore people live in the core city. The CM’s objective is to develop Hyderabad into a liveable city and to plan for another 1 crore population,” he said.

“After the implementation of Phase–2 and Phase–3, the HMRL will cover the entire city covering a distance of 415 km and will have 186 stations,” he added.

The Metro corridor will be extended from Medchal to Patancheru for 29 km, from Tarnaka to ECIL for eight km and from LB Nagar to Peddar Amberpet.

NVS said that the main objective is to check the traffic problem in Hyderabad. He said that in the past, his proposal was ignored by the Congress government, and now, as per the vision of KCR, the ORR Metro project has taken a step forward.
