Braving a downpour, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday went round various rehabilitation centres in the city till 1 am on Sunday. He interacted with the people in the rehabilitation centres and enquired about the amenities.
He left the State capital at 7.30 pm and reached Khammam at 11.30 pm on Saturday, visiting the city for the fourth time to assess the condition in the flood-hit city.
The people’s government, led by Congress in Telangana is committed to the welfare of the people. He appealed to the people not to get disheartened and said that the government would come to their rescue.
The flood threat to the city from Munneruvagu is not yet over with the Met Office predicting more rains on Sunday.
On the way to Khammam from Hyderabad, there was heavy rain. He reached the KalvaVoddu in the affected area of the city. He asked the people to go to safer places or take shelter in the rehabilitation centres provided by the government. Later, he inspected the flood level near Munneru Road over bridge at Kalva Voddu.
Around midnight, he visited the Swarna Bharati rehabilitation centre and interacted with people. Over 100 families have been taking shelter in the rehabilitation centre. He enquired about the relief they received from the government and supervised food arrangements. He asked the officials to provide blankets to people.
From there, the Deputy Chief Minister proceeded to the rehabilitation centre at Women’s Degree College in the city and enquired about the amenities at the centre. He spoke with 50 families belonging to Bokkalagadda taking shelter there.
Around 1 am on Sunday, he visited the rehabilitation centre established at a government school in Dhamsalapuram in Khammam urban mandal. He inspected the food and other facilities being provided to them there. To a question, the people taking shelter said that the officials have been responding immediately and giving them medicines even for minor ailments.
Later, he spoke with collector Muzammeel Khan who is alerting the affected people and personally supervising their relief and rehabilitation in government shelters and asked him to focus first on the evacuation of people living in and around Munneru Vagu area as the flood level in the stream is on the rise.
Congress party district president Puvvalla Durga Prasad, Collector Muzammeel Khan, Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt, local medical and health, revenue and other officials were present.
