BRS Working President KT Rama Rao asked party activists to give wide publicity to the distressing statements made by Congress leaders about providing free power supply to farmers.
Recalling the statements of TPCC President A. Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders that three hours of power supply is sufficient for 95% of farmers and that free power supply is not needed, he said that there is a need to hold discussions on this in all villages and homes.
KTR held a teleconference with BRS activists on Saturday and asked them to organise farmers’ meetings for 10 days starting July 17. The conclaves will be held at Rythu Vedikas across the State and the meetings should be attended by at least 1,000 farmers, KTR told the BRS activists.
He added that BRS MLAs have to take responsibility for organising the meetings. A resolution should be passed condemning the statements of Congress leaders about free power supply and demanding that the Congress should apologise to farmers, he said.
He said that people have to be made aware that supporting the Congress will lead to the stoppage of free power supply.
The sufferings of farmers during Congress rule and the progressive power supply policy of the BRS must be explained to the people, he added.
Referring to TDP leader Chandrababu’s comments made in 2001 that agriculture is not worthwhile, KTR said that Revanth Reddy, the current TPCC President, who is a disciple of Chandrababu, also made anti-farmer statements.
KTR said that the BRS government introduced several welfare measures to improve the lives of 70 lakh farmers and also tried to develop the agriculture sector. He said that the Congress which is anti-farmer made unacceptable comments about free power supply.
