Anganwadi workers’ strike enters 2 nd day, dharnas held

The strike of the Anganwadi workers entered the second day today and the workers continued agitations across the district on Wednesday. A large number of Agitating Anganwadi workers staged a dharna at Bhimadole on Wednesday. Holding flexi banners, they raised slogans demanding the government to concede their legitimate demands. The Anganwadi workers and helpers are demanding the government to hike their salary to Rs 26,000, Rs 5 lakh retirement benefit, half of the salary should be paid as pension, gratuity should be paid as per the Supreme Court guidelines, mini-centres should be converted as main centres, budget should be hiked to the ICDS and the FRS app should be revoked.
The Anganwadi workers staged a protest dharna at Gandhi statue in Akividu in the district demanding the government to concede their demands. Similar dharna were also organised across the state including in Nandigama and Pamarru in NTR district, Hindupur, Kadiri and Penukonda towns in SSS district. The Union leaders of Anganwadi workers warned of intensifying the agitation, if the government did not take steps to meet their legitimate demands.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam party state president K Atchannaidu found fault with the YSRCP government for not making efforts to meet the demands of Anganwadi
workers.  He said on Wednesday that the TDP is extending its solidarity with the agitating Anganwadi workers. “We will concede the demands of Anganwadi workers, if the TDP is voted to power,” Atchannaidu assured.
