Home Minister V. Anitha has welcomed the allocation of Rs 8,495 crore for the Home Department in the 2024-25 budget, asserting that the Budget reflects a strong commitment to development and welfare.
Speaking in response to the budgetary allocations on Monday, the Home Minister said that the substantial allocation of Rs 8,495 crore would restore the past glory of the State Home Ministry and the Police Department. She expressed confidence that this allocation would greatly benefit law enforcement and security personnel in the state.
“For the first time, the Police Department has received a record allocation of Rs 8,495 crore in the 2024-25 budget. Under the previous YSRCP government, the Home Ministry was allocated insufficient funds, leaving the police force under-equipped and struggling with inadequate facilities,” Anitha lamented. “Now, with this significant budget allocation, the much-needed amenities will be provided to our police personnel.”
The Home Minister also emphasized that a revamp of the police department is underway, with efforts to modernize the police force through the provision of advanced infrastructure. “A sum of Rs 62 crore has already been released for upgrading police infrastructure,” she added.
Anitha further announced the establishment of four new special police battalions in Srikakulam, Chittoor, Prakasam, and Rajamahendravaram, as part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the police force. The Minister also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to tackle the drug menace in the state, stating that an Anti-Narcotic Task Force would be set up specifically to combat the growing drug issue.
In addition, 13 Fast Track NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) courts will be established to expedite the resolution of drug-related cases. “We are also setting up cyber police stations in every district to combat cybercrimes effectively,” she disclosed.
