The chanteuse Ankit Tiwari, who has created his own niche with his phenomenal tracks like Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu, Galliyan, and Dil cheez tujhe dedi, to name a few gets candid with The Pioneer about Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu being a turning point, and anything-everything about music.
The Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Aashiqui 2 was not only a film that bought both the actors stardom (which also marked their debut) but was also a turning point for many artists. For Instance; in our recent interview with music composer Jeet Gannguli, he revealed that the film was surely a turning point in his life.
True that! The film was a blockbuster hit, and the soundtracks of the film were a bonus, which also played a major part in making it a superhit film. Another artist who rose to fame with the film was the voice behind the most viral song in 2013, Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu, Ankit Tiwari. His young energetic and strong vocals did not only make us all go gaga but was also well-received by the critics, making him a sensational singer. Even today when we listen to this masterpiece it just feels like we’re just listening to it for the first time.
And thus there was no look back to anything else as he travelled the path which bought him some amazing tracks like Galliyan, Tu hai ki nahi, Sanam Teri Kasam, Dekh Lena, Dil cheez tujhe dedi, Matt ja re, and Kuch toh hua hai, to name a few.
But did you know? Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu which not only bought Ankit fame but created his own niche in the musical market, was not going to be a part of Aashiqui 2? Isn’t that ironic? Because think of Aashiqui 2 and one of the songs that’d come to our minds is Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu. “Sun Raha Hai Na Tu was the turning point in my life. It’s funny that this song was not even going to be a part of the movie. But destiny had its plan and good music never goes unnoticed and it turned out to be a massive hit,” shared the vocalist in an exclusive chat with us.
“I think music never has a relevant time. Music is forever living and evolving. I think the kind of songs I pick will forever remain connected with my fans,” said the Galliyan singer, who is known to have been always relevant when it comes to his music.
The pandemic which was a tough phase for many of us, and so was it for him too. To reach the peak point in your career one always has to pass the toughest of the toughest phase in life. The Dhoom Dhaam singer describes the pandemic as his tough phase. “Every artist in their life has a down going phase. That phase indeed is the toughest but that is the time when you realise your capabilities and strengths the most. The same thing happened to me. There were times especially during lockdown when things went south when the work inflow was less but again the only thing that kept me going was my family and music.”
With so many numerous hits, Ankit also has multiple awards like IIFA, GIMA, Stardust, and Zee Cine awards, out of the many to his name. Not once or twice, but he has been honoured uncountable times for his work. “Awards of course play an important role. It feels good when your work gets acknowledged and appreciated like this,”remarked the Katra Katra singer, who dedicates his success to not only his family, but his music team and some renowned directors and producers including Bhushan kumar, Mohit suri, Mahesh bhat, Mukesh bhat, Anurag bedi, Ekta kapoor, Neeraj pandey, Anubhav sinha and more.
While music has been an indispensable part of Bollywood films, not every film is remembered for its songs. But when it comes to tracks sung by him, most of them have been blockbusters even if the film has not been a huge hit! For Instance Boond Boond and Tu Hai Ki Nahi from Roy. So does good music adds traction to any film, he said, “100%. A film with good music is always a win-win. I’m glad that my fans love my music and that they made it such a huge hit. That’s my biggest motivation.”
Offlate especially after the pandemic, we see many of our favourite singers and artists travel to various cities and perform live shows, which make them connect even more to their fans. Ankit is also one amongst those artists, who has been travelling most of the year to perform live shows. In fact, he had very recently performed down south in Hyderabad and Coimbatore. Being equally phenomenal in performing live shows and playback singing, the Shaamat singer enjoys both, as he said, “Both has its own uniqueness it’s own taste. In playback, a singer gets to experiment with the voice and in live shows the love and energy you get from the fans are amazing. I love my fans in South. Each time I visit South the response is humongous. It is amazing and warm as always and I thoroughly love it.”
The songster who has always got his work intact and believes that music is all about experimenting had recently added another masterpiece to his list; Galliyan Returns, remix of Galliyan (2014) from Ek Villain. But having said that, we also see that due the remix culture listeners have began appreciating non-filmy songs and thus that has actually helped many independent singers as a boon. Going ahead, sharing his thoughts on the same, he enthusiastically explained to us, “The thing is people have started liking the remix versions so much that the original songs are being hit I feel as in Galliyan returns also we thought that Shammat which is a beautiful melody didn’t turn out to reach the scale which was expected rather Galliyan returns turned out to be a major hit.”
While people might term him to be a singer who mostly sings romantic numbers, Ankit straightaway denies it and said, “ I don’t term myself specifically in any bracket. I have sung romantic as well as peppy numbers as well. Romance is my forte but Dil Cheez Tujhe De Di was a peppy number and that too turned out to be a major party anthem.”
So, music folks! Get ready to add some more breathtaking tracks to your playlist, because he’s got a lot of projects lined up.
