The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati reported the formation of another low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, situated off the northern coasts of Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha.

As of 1730 hrs IST on Monday, July 24th, a low-pressure area has developed in the region under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. The system is expected to intensify, possibly transforming into a depression by July 26, 2023. Subsequently, it is likely to move slowly in a west-northwestward direction, approaching the northern coasts of Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha.

The director of the Meteorological Centre, Amaravati, indicated the persistence of a shear zone, approximately along Latitude 20° N, situated between 3.1 and 5.8 km above the mean sea level. Additionally, the cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal extends up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level, tilting southwards with altitude. This weather system is anticipated to give rise to another low-pressure area in the same region within the next 24 hours. By July 26th, it is likely to intensify further and develop into a depression, moving gradually west-northwestward along the northern coasts of Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha.

It should be noted that the cyclonic circulation over South Odisha and its surrounding areas at 3.1 km above mean sea level has become less pronounced.
