Bollywood director and actor Anurag Kashyap has been actively appearing in South Indian films lately. He recently played a villain in Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil film Maharaja and also appeared in Viduthalai Part 2 (Tamil) and a Malayalam film. Now, Kashyap is set to make his Telugu debut with Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh in the lead role. The film is being made simultaneously in Hindi, prompting the makers to cast Kashyap in a key role. Mrunal Thakur plays the female lead.
Anurag Kashyap has joined the project in a powerful role, portraying a fearless police inspector who is a staunch Ayyappa devotee and has zero tolerance for corruption. According to the makers, his character is sharp-minded, witty and sarcastic, adding depth to the film’s intense narrative filled with action, emotion and drama. Dacoit follows the journey of a convict seeking revenge on his ex-girlfriend, who betrayed him. As he devises a dangerous plan to trap her, the story unfolds into an emotionally charged saga of love, betrayal, and vengeance.
“Playing a police officer who is an Ayyappa devotee is both fun and challenging. The conflict between duty and dharma, and his approach to the job with a dry sense of humor, makes the character fantastic,” said Kashyap about his role in Dacoit. He also expressed excitement about the bilingual shoot, saying, “Getting the same impact in both languages is a challenge, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it.”
The film marks the directorial debut of Shaneil Deo, with Supriya Yarlagadda producing and Suniel Narang co-producing. The story and screenplay have been jointly crafted by Adivi Sesh and Shaneil Deo.
