The Andhra Pradesh Police Department has launched a dedicated WhatsApp number — 79934 85111 — under its ‘Shakti’ initiative to enhance the safety of women and children.
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta launched the service on Tuesday at the State Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri. He said the new number would allow women in distress to send messages or make calls, including video calls. The information will be instantly relayed to the nearest command and control centre, prompting an immediate response from Shakti teams.
The service will operate round the clock as part of the Women and Child Safety Wing’s efforts to strengthen real-time emergency response systems.
Inspector General of Police B Rajakumari encouraged all women to save the number on their phones, highlighting its importance.
SP Sridevi Rao and other senior officials were also present at the launch event.
