In a significant step towards promoting handloom textiles, Andhra Pradesh-based APCO and Tamil Nadu’s Co-Optex have entered into a partnership agreement. The two organisations have set a target of achieving textile sales worth Rs 9.20 crore this year. The agreement was formalised during a Buyer-Seller Meet held in Vijayawada in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Handloom and Weavers Minister S. Savitha and Tamil Nadu Handlooms Minister R. Gandhi.
As part of this initiative, APCO has signed a deal with Co-Optex to expand the market reach of Andhra Pradesh’s handloom products in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, Tamil Nadu’s handloom products will be made available in Andhra Pradesh through APCO and other business entities.
Handloom textiles from Andhra Pradesh will also be sold at Co-Optex showrooms and various textile stores across Tamil Nadu.
During the Buyer-Seller Meet, Minister Savitha inaugurated the event and, along with Minister R. Gandhi, visited the stalls set up by Co-Optex. They examined the quality and pricing of the handloom products and reiterated their commitment to supporting the sector.
Minister Savitha highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to expand market opportunities for handloom products and enhance the economic well-being of weavers. She noted that several handloom expos and exhibitions have been conducted at the state and national levels, alongside training sessions on modern designs and consumer preferences.
“The agreement between APCO and Co-Optex is expected to usher in a new era of growth and sustainability for the handloom sector in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, ensuring that the rich heritage of traditional textiles continues to thrive,” she said.
