The Andhra Pradesh government will install over one lakh CCTV cameras across the state to enhance security and tackle rising cybercrime, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha announced at a state-level workshop on digital evidence on Saturday. Organised by the Directorate of Prosecution, the workshop brought together 150 prosecutors to address challenges in handling digital evidence in court.
Anitha highlighted the increasing cases of cybercrime despite a decline in traditional offences. She stressed the need for more digital forensics manpower and urged prosecutors and police to collaborate for effective crime prevention. She also emphasised the impact of cybercrime on professionals, including doctors and lawyers, and called for greater public awareness.
Speedy justice was another key focus, with Anitha citing recent cases in Vizianagaram where convictions were secured within six months. She assured the government’s commitment to equipping law enforcement with necessary resources.
NTR District Police Commissioner SV Rajashekara Babu stressed the role of digital evidence, noting that CCTV cameras have improved case resolutions. Director of Prosecutions Rama Koteshwara Rao B underscored the role of AI and analytics in crime detection, urging prosecutors to adapt to technological advancements.
