State president of BJP, Daggubati Purandeswari, has asserted that the development in Andhra Pradesh is primarily dependent on the funds provided by the Central government.

At a press conference held in Proddatur on Sunday, Purandeswari accused the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led State government of diverting funds meant for village panchayats for other purposes. This misuse of funds, she claimed, has severely hampered the village sarpanches from executing essential developmental projects in their respective regions.

As an example, she cited the unfortunate incident of a panchayat sarpanch in Prakasam district attempting suicide due to the non-release of funds. Expressing her concern, Purandeswari started her Rayalaseema tour in Kadapa and reminisced about her father, NT Rama Rao, the founder of the Telugu Desam Party, who also began his political journey in Rayalaseema.

Highlighting the Central government’s initiatives, she stated that 22 lakh houses were sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh. However, the state government’s lack of expeditious construction has left many waiting for their new homes.

She also criticized the ruling party leaders for accumulating wealth through liquor sales and alleged unfair allocation of mining rights to associates of YSRCP leaders. Moreover, she raised concerns about sand mining activities carried out by government-appointed agencies.

Purandeswari expressed deep disappointment over the current state of development in Andhra Pradesh, citing drought conditions prevailing in Rayalaseema.

She further accused the state government of slow progress in the construction of irrigation projects and lift irrigation schemes in the region. She pointed out that even after the crest gate of the Annamayya project was washed away in last year’s floods, it hasn’t been reinstalled to date.

The BJP state president also criticized the government for failing to provide houses to those who lost their homes in the floods, despite Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s promise to do so within three months.

Purandeswari took a strong stance against the state government’s handling of the unemployed population in Kadapa district, alleging deception in the pretext of constructing a steel factory in the region.

On a positive note, she commended the BJP-led Central government for allocating substantial funds for the construction of national highways in Andhra Pradesh. However, she expressed grave concern over the dilapidated condition of the existing roads, stating that the state government has been unable to undertake adequate reconstruction or repair work.

Purandeswari underlined the critical role played by the Central government in funding development initiatives in Andhra Pradesh and urged the State government to utilise these funds more efficiently and transparently for the betterment of the region.
