In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded near Gopal Dhaba at Somaladoddi on the city outskirts on Thursday, an Armed Reserve constable lost his life while his wife is battling for life after a devastating accident.
The constable, identified as Kiran Kumar (42), tragically lost his life, while his wife, Anita, sustained injuries following the mishap.
The fateful day saw the couple riding a motorcycle. Loss of control over the vehicle led to their fall onto the road. Soon, an unidentified vehicle passed over them, killing Kiran Kumar on the spot.
In an awe-inspiring display of courage, despite his own grievous injuries, Kiran Kumar mustered the strength to reach out to his wounded wife, Anita. He whispered words of hope and reassurance. Bleeding and writhing in pain, the couple stood united, focusing their concern on their two children. For nearly 20 minutes, amidst the bystanders’ indifferent gaze, the couple’s mutual support remained unbroken.
However, the scene that unfolded was not one of unity and compassion. Instead of extending a helping hand to their fellow humans in dire need, certain onlookers chose to be apathetic and callous. Instead of helping the couple in distress, they started capturing the unfolding tragedy. Mobile phones were raised, not as tools of assistance, but as devices to document the couple’s struggle.
The chilling indifference continued until an ambulance finally arrived, bringing with it a glimmer of hope for the injured pair. The couple was rushed to a government hospital, where their ordeal continued.
Triloknath, president of the AP Police Welfare Association, paid a visit to the ailing Kiran Kumar at GGH. It was during this meeting that the constable, facing an uncertain fate, reached out in desperation, seeking support for his beloved children.
In a tragic twist of fate, as Kiran Kumar was being transferred to a private hospital in Bengaluru, his fight for life came to an end. The constable, who had a humble background, had dedicated his service to the APPS since 2003, later served in the AR, and even spent five years in the Greyhounds unit.
The accident occurred while Kiran Kumar was transporting his wife to her school, a routine that sadly turned tragic.
This incident has sparked an outcry of criticism and disbelief from various quarters of society.
