Assistive devices distributed to Divyangjan, senior citizens

Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Parshottam Rupala highlighted the concerted efforts of the Central and State governments in illuminating the lives of individuals with disabilities. Speaking during the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for distribution of aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan and senior citizens, the minister emphasised the significance of the A.D.I.P. (Assistance to Disabled persons for purchasing / fitting of aids / appliances) scheme.
The event, organised jointly by the Central and State governments, witnessed the participation of esteemed guests, including Rajya Sabha member GVL Narsimha Rao, Deputy Director, Welfare of Differently Abled, Transgender & Sr. Citizens, Kumar Raja, Joint Collector K. Mayur Ashok, and others. The occasion marked the distribution of 2,925 devices, manufactured at a cost of Rs.2.25 crore under the auspices of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), to 1,589 persons in the district.
Purshottam Rupa expressed gratitude to the governments, public representatives, and officials for their cooperation, attributing the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary approach and compassion towards the disabled.
GVL Narsimha Rao emphasised that disability is a result of bad luck, not a choice. He commended the positive response from the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in supporting programmes for the disabled. Rao highlighted the removal of the term “handicapped” in favour of “disabled” and announced the allocation of Rs.2.25 crore for manufacturing 2,925 devices, benefitting 1,589 individuals. He pledged the BJP’s commitment to provide equipment to an additional 50 lakh people with disabilities over the next five years.
Kumar Raja outlined the State government’s initiatives for the disabled. Raja mentioned the distribution of equipment worth Rs.25 crore to 4,000 people, including laptops and motorised tricycles for disabled students. The State’s support encompasses self-employment schemes, and Raja affirmed their commitment to the well-being of the disabled community.
The Joint Collector provided insights into the devices distributed, detailing the 2,925 devices that included motorised bicycles, tricycles, two-wheelers, crutches, hearing aids, walking sticks, Braille kits, smartphones, ordinary cell phones, CP chairs, and limbs. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with ALIMCO, aimed to address the specific needs of the disabled community in the district.
The programme witnessed the participation of ALIMCO Company’s Deputy General Manager Sanjay Singh, Visakhapatnam District AD Madhavi, Vijayanagaram District AD Jagdish, officials, public representatives, and several disabled individuals.
