In a significant move towards social inclusion and empowerment, the district administration, in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), distributed assistive tools to 284 differently-abled individuals. This initiative, fueled by a generous Rs 33 lakh grant from IOCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, aims to enhance the mobility, communication, and overall well-being of individuals with various disabilities.
The distribution programme, held at the Chandrampalem Zilla Parishad High School Grounds in Madhurawada, was spearheaded by District Collector Dr. A. Mallikharjuna. He was joined by Bheemili MLA Muttamshetty Srinivasa Rao, who inaugurated the event with the ceremonial lighting of the Jyoti. The distributed assistive tools catered to a diverse range of needs, encompassing wheelchairs, walking sticks, tricycles, hearing aids, motorised tricycles, crutches, knee caps, accessible canes, Braille kits, and laptops. These aids are expected to significantly improve the recipients’ independence, communication abilities, and overall quality of life.
Dr. Mallikharjuna acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Artificial Limited Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALINCO) in manufacturing the equipment and IOCL for its substantial CSR funding. He outlined plans for future identification camps in collaboration with the central government and ALINCO to assess the needs of more differently-abled individuals and provide them with necessary equipment.
Both Dr. Mallikharjuna and MLA Srinivasa Rao reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and inclusion of differently-abled individuals. They commended their resilience and talents and highlighted the collective efforts of the government and various organizations in empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.
Following the distribution ceremony, the officials inspected the ongoing noon meal scheme at the Chandrampalem Zilla Parishad High School. They expressed satisfaction with the quality and nutrition of the meals provided to students, underscoring the government’s focus on holistic development encompassing both education and well-being. This initiative marks a significant milestone in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for differently-abled individuals in Visakhapatnam. The distribution of assistive tools not only empowers them with greater independence and communication abilities but also paves the way for their active participation in various facets of society.
