Minister for Agriculture, Cooperation, Marketing, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries K Atchannaidu assumed office at Block 4 in the State Secretariat on Friday. A ‘puja’ was performed in his chambers in the secretariat amid the chanting and blessings of Vedic scholars. Soon after taking charge as the minister, he first signed the ‘Polam Pilustundi’ file and other five files on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that under the leadership of CM Chandrababu, the farmers will lead their lives with self-respect. The minister said that the previous YSRCP government had completely neglected the agriculture sector which contributed to 35 percent of the state’s GDP. He said that he would do his best to bring back the glory of these departments. The minister said that from July 23 Polam Pilustundi programme will be organized across the state. Plans are being made to organise the PolamBadi programme for four months in Kharif and four months in Rabi. Steps are being taken to distribute agricultural mechanized equipment to all the farmers.
Minister Atchannaidu said that GO No 217 was issued by the previous government to seize the fish ponds, which are a source of livelihood for the fishermen, and the minister signed the file cancelling the GO. He said that the previous government had stopped the Diesel subsidy provided by the government to the fishermen, and the state chief minister had sanctioned Rs10 crores to continue the subsidy. De-warming camps are being organized from tomorrow (July 13) for the improvement of the dairy industry and to protect the health of the cattle. He said that the cattle statistics data is being carried out to know the details of how many cattle are there across the state.
