A delegation of YSRCP leaders met the National SC Commission in Delhi on Wednesday. The delegation comprising MP M Gurumurthy, former ministers Merugu Nagarjuna, and Adimulapu Suresh, former MP Nandigam Suresh, former MLA Kaile Anil Kumar lodged a complaint with National SC Commission Chairman Kishore Makwana on the attack on the Dr BR Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada.
Speaking to the media after the meeting here on Wednesday, the delegation complained that the government has shown indifference in apprehending and punishing the culprits and that they have no faith in the State government. They demanded that the Central forces provide protection to the statue.
“The attack on Dr BR Ambedkar’s statue in Vijayawada on August 8 was a heinous act. The Chandrababu government has shown negligence in apprehending the culprits and taking action. We, the SC representatives of YSRCP, have lodged a complaint with the SC Commission, and the Chairman has responded positively. Such actions should not be tolerated and that the Ambedkar statue is a national treasure. The Chairman assured us that he would visit the site and take strict action,” said MP Dr Gurumurthy.
Former minister Merugu Nagarjuna highlighted that the police failed to file a case despite receiving a memorandum, expressing distrust in the State government. Nagarjuna  said  Chandrababu Naidu was previously trying to auction the land where the statue stands, suggesting that the current government might be planning to demolish it, and called for Central protection.
Former minister Adimulapu Suresh condemned the attack on the Ambedkar statue refuting claims that it was related to an inscription with Jagan’s name. He emphasised that the attack was directly on Ambedkar’s statue and praised YSRCP’s efforts under Jagan’s leadership to uplift marginalised communities, including installing Ambedkar’s statue in Vijayawada.
Former MP Nandigam Suresh criticised Chandrababu Naidu’s lack of concern and recalled TDP members’ previous intentions to demolish the statue. MLC Mondithoka Arun Kumar questioned the role of TDP goons in the attack and the failure of security measures. He demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
