In a startling development, Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy has appealed to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an impartial investigation into the murder of his uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy.
Avinash Reddy, representing the YSRCP, in a letter addressed to CBI Director Praveen Sood on June 19, 2023, urged him to review the previous investigation carried out by former CBI SP Ram Singh. The letter seeks to establish the facts behind the murder and ensure justice is served in this high-profile case.
The murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy took place on the night of March 15, 2019, during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government. Initially treated as a suspicious death, the case was later reclassified as a murder, prompting further investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the Addl. Director General of Police CID, was formed by the then State government, headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, to probe the matter.
Avinash Reddy’s letter raises serious doubts over the integrity of the investigation conducted by CBI SP Ram Singh. He highlighted concerns about the authenticity of witness statements recorded by the CBI, the counter affidavits filed in various courts, and the orders passed by these courts. One of the key points of contention is the alleged fabrication of evidence against A2, Sunil Yadav, who was accused of repeatedly visiting the victim’s residence before the murder, based on Google takeout data. However, Avinash Reddy contended that this claim is baseless, as the CBI analyst never mentioned A2 being present at the crime scene during the relevant period.
Avinash Reddy pointed to an official confession by accused A4, Shaik Dastagiri, who stated that Yadati Sunil Yadav had instructed him to purchase an axe for the murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy. Surprisingly, this crucial piece of information was seemingly disregarded during the investigation, despite being documented in A4’s statement to the CBI.
The core issue at the heart of this matter is whether Ram Singh conducted the investigation with inherent bias against certain individuals implicated in the crime.
Avinash Reddy alleged that evidence may have been manipulated, and relevant information may have been overlooked. He sought a comprehensive examination of the biased investigation, aimed at holding those responsible accountable and ensuring justice for late Vivekananda Reddy.
The case of YS Vivekananda Reddy’s murder had already garnered considerable attention due to its political implications, with allegations and finger-pointing, marring the investigation during the height of election season. However, Avinash Reddy’s fervent request for a fresh inquiry into the allegedly compromised investigation has renewed public interest in the case.
As the high-profile case reemerges into the spotlight, the people of Andhra Pradesh anxiously await a resolution that will establish the truth regarding the untimely death of YS Vivekananda Reddy.
